The regional association of the International Committee on Large Dams (ICOLD), the ICOLD National Committees of the Americas (INCA), will present the International Symposium on Safety of Dams conference in conjunction with the Unites States Society on Dams (USSD) in Mexico City, Mexico, which convenes Oct. 26-28.
Themed as “Dam Safety in the Americas,” experts at the conference from throughout the Western Hemisphere will give presentations and lead discussions that include an emphasis on experiences and challenges faced by various countries on the following topics:
- Dam safety regulation and legislation;
- Overtopping case studies;
- Earth and rockfill dam safety and practice;
- Hydraulic and hydrologic design criteria;
- Seismic design criteria; and
- Risk-informed dam safety.
The Engineering Institute of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) will host the conference. INCA President Dr. Humberto Marengo Mogollon is serving as the chairman of the conference organizing committee that also includes USSD President John Wolfhope, and Victor Vasquez, a USSD member and engineer for Freese and Nichols Inc.
Conference activities will take place in the building for the Engineering Institute on the UNAM campus and presentations include simultaneous translation in Spanish and English.
