The 1.6-MW Ismayilli-2 small hydroelectric plant was officially launched by Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev, the government announced Aug. 10.

The Ismayilli-2 powerhouse contains three 1.6-MW turbine-generator units. Three 800-mm-diameter pipes 2,115 m long, deliver water to the units.

In March 2015, AzerEnerji reported that construction of the Ismayilli-2 and several other small hydro stations was “nearing completion.” At that time, total generating capacity of the electric power system in the country was reported at 6,300 MW.

In 2014, HydroWorld.com reported that two small hydropower projects, 20.5-MW Arpachay 1 and 1.4-MW Arpachay 2, had been commissioned in the country.
