HeliosAltas signs deal for micro turbine manufacture in Italy

Helios PowerWheel Micro Turbine

Hydro turbine manufacturer HeliosAltas Corp. has signed a memorandum of understanding with Italian fabricator Rampinelli S.p.A. to develop, service and sell the Helios PowerWheel in Europe.

The agreement will see the partners "explore the establishment of a suitable assembly and/or manufacturing facilities in Italy and other locations in Europe to more efficiently and cost-effectively supply the demand for products in Europe," according to a statement for the California-based HeliosAltas.

Per the memorandum, the parties will cooperate in evaluating the Italian market to develop projects using PowerWheel technology, with the installation, operation and procurement of long-term power purchase agreements using PowerWheel units also undertaken under the agreement.

"With the Paris Climate Conference establishing the overwhelming support of clean energy technologies such as the PowerWheel, now is the time to put such technology to use," Rampinelli chief operating officer Gabriele Rampinelli said. "Micro hydro is also the fastest growing hydropower segment, and the PowerWheel is positioned to bring a technological breakthrough in this industry."

The PowerWheel units range in power output from 5 kW to 40 kW. The drive assembly is composed of aluminum and stainless steel in an aluminum shell, and the suspended generator wheel rises and falls with changing water levels. The device is modular technology and all of its generation components are contained within its shell.

HydroWorld.com reported in May that HeliosAltas had signed an agreement with DA Green Power Consulting to deploy PowerWheel units in the Philippines.
