McCalman retires, Rieker promoted at Bureau of Reclamation

Reclamation job transitions

Kerry McCalman has retired from his position of senior advisor, hydropower/electric reliability compliance officer at the U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Reclamation, and Jeff Rieker has been promoted to deputy operations manager for the Central Valley Office in Sacramento.

Previously, McCalman managed the Power Resources Office in Denver. He joined Reclamation in 1998 as operations and maintenance manager of the Snake River Area Office in Burley, Idaho, and had several positions in the interim, including power manager for the Upper Colorado Region and Great Plains Region.

McCalman’s position is currently open.

In his new position, Rieker will be involved in the day-to-day water and power operations of Reclamation’s Central Valley Project, which is comprised of 20 dams and reservoirs, 11 power plants and more than 500 miles of canals and aqueducts within California’s Central Valley.

Rieker began his career with Reclamation in 1999 and has served as a hydrologic modeler and a river and reservoir operations forecaster, as well as overseeing a variety of water resource planning and management issues in Carson City, Nev., Sacramento and Washington, D.C.

Reclamation is the largest wholesale water supplier and second largest producer of hydroelectric power in the U.S., with operations and facilities in 17 western states.
