Global manufacturer GE Renewable Energy has been awarded a pair of service contracts for modernization work at hydropower plants in Vietnam and China.
Per contracts announced by GE Renewables' base in Paris, the company will provide parts for Electricity of Viet Nam's 400-MW Tri An plant and the Yalong River Hydro Development Co. Ltd.'s 3,300-MW Ertan plant.
GE said it is responsible for replacing control, governor and excitation systems at Tri An, which is located about 100 km from Ho Chi Minh City. GE will also provide balance-of-power, equipment design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning and testing services.
In China, GE will design, manufacture, assemble and test a number of unspecified components for Ertan. The project -- located in Sichuan Province on the Yalong River.
"I'm convinced that GE's global expertise and service solutions will increase the output performance of our customers' fleets," said Yves Rannou, president and CEO of GE Hydro. "Winning these two service contracts expands GE's business scope and further consolidates our leading position in the hydro segment."
Both contracts will be handled by the company's facility in Tianjin, China. The value of the award was not disclosed.
