AMP new assistant vice president

Adam Ward has joined the staff of hydro developer American Municipal Power as assistant vice president of environmental affairs and policy.

In this position, Ward will direct the functions of AMP’s environmental affairs group, including compliance activities, regulatory review, policy development and environmental filings; perform siting analysis; and provide regular updates to the AMP board of trustees and membership.

Before joining AMP, Ward worked for 20 years in various capacities with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, most recently as assistant chief of the air pollution control division.

He has a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from Bowling Green State University and a master’s degree in environmental, safety and emergency management from the University of Findlay.

AMP is the nonprofit wholesale power supplier and services provider for 132 member municipal electric systems in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Virginia, Kentucky, West Virginia, Indiana, Maryland and Delaware.

AMP has four run-of-river hydroelectric projects under construction on the Ohio River with a total capacity of more than 300 MW. This includes 35-MW Willow Island, where the first unit began commercial operation last month.
