OWA presents awards during 15th Annual Power of Water Canada Conference

During the 15th Annual Power of Water Canada Conference last month in Niagara Falls, Canada, the Ontario Waterpower Association (OWA) recognized the contribution of industry leaders at its annual awards ceremony.

Alfred Mohino, who currently works for the KGS Group, received the R.R. Dodokin award, which recognizes the outstanding contribution of an individual to the advancement of waterpower in Ontario.

Mohino’s waterpower career spans 40 years.

Mohino has served as a senior mechanical engineer for Hydro Tech Inc., he was a mechanical maintenance and field services engineer with Ontario Power Generation and previous to that was manager of turbine design with Barber Hydraulic Turbine. He holds an Engineering degree from the University of Waterloo and an Engineering degree in land and aerial surveys from the University of Madrid.

His legacy in Ontario is reflected in the talent and expertise of turbine engineers in the province and to the advocacy and introduction of new technology on which Ontario-based businesses now depend. In its press release, OWA said Mohino has dedicated his career, engineering knowledge and experience to the cause of keeping hydro equipment running reliably, safely and more productively.

OWA recognized Hydromega Services Inc. by presenting the company with the Stewardship award for its leadership in environmental sustainability.

Hydromega partnered with three communities on the 22-MW Kapuskasing River waterpower project and with the Dokis First Nation on the 10-MW Okikendawt hydroelectric project on the French River, according to OWA.

“The company’s approach and dedication to sustainable development has advanced not only environmental and economic benefits, but also builds positive and productive partnerships,” the release said.

According to OWA, nearly 400 Canadian and international delegates from the waterpower industry, non-government organizations, First Nations and government agencies attended the event.
