Dewey Lakes, River Mill and Prairie du Sac join Hydro Hall of Fame

Representatives for three facilities inducted into the Hydro Hall of Fame received their awards during HydroVision International 2015, held July 14-17 in Portland, Ore.

The Hydro Hall of Fame is a collection of 42 plants that have been in continuous operation for 100 years or more. These testaments to hydropower’s durability and long life have been chosen as inductees by the editors of Hydro Review every year since 1995, based on their age, performance history and unique characteristics.

This year’s hydroelectric project inductees include:

943-kW Dewey Lakes

Glen Martin accepted the award for 943-kW Dewey Lakes, owned by Alaska Power & Telephone, located in southeastern Alaska, which first began generating energy in 1902 within the Klondike-era gold rush community of Skagway.

25-MW River Mill

John Esler was all smiles as he accepted the Hydro Hall of Fame award for 25-MW River Mill, owned and operated by Portland General Electric,  located about one mile west of Estacada, Oregon. The facility began generating power for Portland General Electric customers in 1911.

31-MW Prairie du Sac

Finally, Amanda Acton accepted the Hydro Hall of Fame award for 31-MW Prairie du Sac located on the Wisconsin River, owned and operated by Alliant Energy, which have been powering communities in the area since 1914.

Each person representing their plant owner gave brief remarks during their acceptance at which time they offered sincere gratitude for the award and spoke of the continued importance hydroelectric power has in their local community.
