Samoa Electric Power Corp. (EPC) has extended the deadline for bids to reconstruct three mini-hydropower projects totaling 4.69 MW. Bids now are due July 27.

EPC previously called for bids by June 15.

The Asian Development Bank recruited an owners engineer last year to help EPC rehabilitate the three mini-hydro projects and to build three new mini-hydro projects totaling 810 kW. ADB provided US$23.8 million to Samoa in 2013 to repair hydro projects on Upolu Island that were damaged in December 2012 by Cyclone Evan, while also funding another three new facilities on Upolu and Savai'i Island. The projects are intended to help Samoa decrease its dependency on diesel-generated energy, which currently accounts for about 60 percent of the country's total power supply.

EPC now seeks bids for design, construction, installation, rehabilitation, completion and commissioning of cyclone-damaged projects 1.74-MW Fale ole Fee, 1.9-MW Samasoni, and 1.05-MW Alaoa, all on Upolu. Work is to include rehabilitation of intakes and headraces, headponds and equipment; repair, replacement and relocating underground sections of pipelines and penstocks; and refurbishment of hydropower equipment and appurtenant equipment

Bidding documents in English may be obtained for 450 tala or US$200 by e-mail request to Project Manager at perelini48@gmail.com. Payment is at the EPC office or by deposit to the EPC bank account at ANZ Bank (Samoa) Ltd., Corner Beach Road and Post Office St., Account: Electric Power Corp., No. BSB Number 010979, Swift Code: ANZBWSWW.
