Letting loose and having fun

Most of what we cover here at PennWell’s Hydro Group is serious.

Dam safety, powerplant rehabilitation, drought effects, fish passage, new development, evolving policies. The list goes on and on.

If you approach a serious subject in a lighthearted way, you risk trivializing it.

But, every once in a while, it’s fun to do something a little different, shake things up.

Maybe that’s why I enjoyed the below “movie trailer” so much. Watch it now. I’ll wait.

What did you think? Pretty funny, huh? I particularly liked the “theme” at the end: “If anything exciting happens, we’ve done it wrong.”

While we could never measure up to John Oliver in terms of comedic value (or star power), we’ve been trying to have a little more “fun” with our work as well. Case in point is our weekly newscast.

Gregory B. Poindexter, associate editor, has been the inspiration behind this effort. Watch our newscasts all the way to the end and you’ll see that as “Mr. Newscast Guy,” he has more than a little fun with his material.

This is a particularly relevant example of that:

So, we hope you enjoy our new approach and it gives you a chance to get to learn about important offerings while also getting to know the Hydro Group people a little better.

And if you have any fun ideas for Mr. Newscast Guy, post them below. We’re always looking for new material!
