U.S. extends call for fixed cone valve for West Virginia's Summersville Dam

Summersville Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended a call for bids to supply a fixed cone valve to Summersville Dam on the Gauley River in West Virginia. Bids are now due April 14.

The Corps' Huntington District previously called for bids by April 9. It issued a similar call, restricted to small businesses, for one of the big valves in 2014.

The second tallest dam east of the Mississippi River, Summersville was completed by the Corps in 1966 for flood control recreation and flow augmentation. Though operated by the Corps, it is the site of the 80-MW Summersville hydroelectric project (No. 10813), licensed to the city of Summersville, W.Va., by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

In an unrestricted solicitation, the Huntington District now seeks bids to fabricate, assemble, test and deliver a 106.75-inch-diameter fixed cone valve, electric operator and appurtenant items. The stainless steel valve body is to consist of a cylinder, a fixed internal deflector cone on the downstream end, internal radial vanes and an upstream flange for attachment to a flanged pipe spool piece.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. W9123715R0009 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids now are due April 14. For information, contact Eileen S. Hodges, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Huntington District, Attn.: CELRH-CT, 502 8th St., Huntington, WV 25701-2070; (1) 304-399-5042; E-mail: eileen.s.hodges@usace.army.mil.
