Gil C. Quinones has been elected chairman of the Board of Directors for the Electric Power Research Institute.

Quinones is president and chief executive officer of New York Power Authority. He previously was EPRI vice chair and succeeds Denis P. O’Brien, who is CEO of Exelon Utilities. Quinones will serve a four-year term.

He is also vice chair of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority and is NYPA’s principal representative to the American Public Power Association.

“Gil has an impressive record of accomplishments in New York, and we are pleased to have him chair our Board of Directors,” says Mike Howard, president and CEO of EPRI. “Gil has a keen insight of industry issues and a strong believe that technology offers the best option to address the challenges faced by the electric industry.”

Current board member Patricia Vincent-Collawn with PNM Resources was elected vice chair.

Other members elected include:

-- Lisa Johnson, Seminole Electric Cooperative

-- Warner Baxter, Ameren Corporation

-- Mark McCullough, AEP

Additionally, Bonneville Power Administration selected Elliot Mainzer to fill the permanent BPA seat on the board. David Coen, who formerly filled an external director vacancy, will serve a four-year term as external director. Robert W. Jones with Morgan Stanley will also serve a four-year term as external director. And Thava Govender of South Africa and Enrico Viale of Italy will fill interim terms.

EPRI is an independent non-profit organization that works with utilities, scientists, engineers, and experts from academia to address challenges in the electricity industry.

NYPA operates 16 generating facilities and provides more than 70% of its electricity from hydropower facilities.
