Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has further extended the pre-qualification deadline for major civil works construction of the 2,160-MW Dasu Stage 1 hydroelectric project on Pakistan's Indus River. Responses now are due May 28.

The agency also called for bids by June 15 to construct the project colony at Dasu.

WAPDA previously called for responses to the civil works invitation by April 28, February 27, December 1 and October 31. It invites applications for pre-qualification by March 24 to relocate a highway and to construct an access road for the project. Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif broke ground last June for the total 4,320-MW Dasu Stage 1 and 2 project.

Dasu Stage 1 includes construction of a 242-meter-tall roller-compacted-concrete dam, underground powerhouse and switchgear cavern, and six turbine-generators. About 34 villages with 7,000 people are to be relocated and 4,104 hectares to be inundated.

WAPDA now invites applications for pre-qualification to carry out two lots of civil works:

  • ICB-DASU-MW-01, procurement of main works, main hydraulic structure, spillway, low-level outlets, river diversions and hydraulic steel structures; and
  • ICB-DASU-MW-02, procurement of main works, underground power complex, tunnels and hydraulic steel structures.

Pre-qualification documents, in English, may be purchased from the address below upon written application and a fee of 20,000 rupees or US$200 with mailing of documents within Pakistan. For mailing of documents outside Pakistan, the total fee is 30,000 rupees or US$300. Payment is by bank pay order or demand draft to General Manager, Dasu HPP, WAPDA, Sunny View Estate, Kashmir Road, Lahore, Pakistan.
