The Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP) invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform feasibility studies and environmental and social impact studies of the 350-kW Nyimur multi-purpose hydroelectric project in the Aswa River Basin on the border of Uganda and South Sudan. Responses to two solicitations are due April 17.
NELSAP, a unit of the multi-nation Nile Basin Initiative of eastern Africa, recruited consultants in 2011 to identify a multipurpose water resources development project, including hydropower, in the Aswa Basin. The agency also recruited consultants in 2013 to produce a hydroelectric power development plan including hydropower options for South Sudan and cross-border transmission options for regional power sharing. South Sudan also called for bids in 2013 to construct the 42-MW Fula Rapids hydroelectric project on the Nile River and a 150-kilometer transmission line and substation in South Sudan.
NELSAP now seeks consultants to perform feasibility and tender design studies for the Nyimur multi-purpose water resources project on the Nyimur River, including a reservoir, irrigation, water and soil conservation and a mini-hydropower project. The consultant also is to perform detailed design of the best project option. The work is to require 24 months beginning in July. Expressions of interest, labeled "Feasibility Studies, Detail Design and Tender Document Preparation for the Nyimur Multi-purpose Water Resources Project," are due by 4 p.m. April 17 to the address below.
NELSAP also seeks consultants to perform an environmental and social impact assessment and to develop a resettlement action plan for Nyimur. The work is to require 12 months beginning in January 2016. Expressions of interest, labeled "Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and Development of a Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) for the Nyimur Multi-purpose Water Resources Project," are due by 4 p.m. April 17 to the address below.
