Representatives of Microsoft and Yahoo are going to participate in the hydropower discussion at the National Hydropower Association Annual Conference later this month.

This is great news for the hydroelectric industry, says Linda Church Ciocci, executive director of NHA. “NHA is excited to have Yahoo and Microsoft participating in the NHA annual conference this year. As more businesses make sustainable energy procurement a priority, they are turning to hydropower yet again,” she says. “We look forward to the closing session discussion on how hydropower fits in with these companies’ energy strategies for the future.”

The session in which the Microsoft and Yahoo representatives are speaking is entitled Seeing Hydro’s Value -- Hydro End Users Forum.

This session is intended to educate attendees about why representatives of such end users of hydropower as manufacturing and technology companies feel hydroelectricity offers them unique value. Many of these companies use significant amounts of electricity on a day-to-day basis and are looking for a reliable, long-term supply of “green” electrical power available for purchase at competitive rates.

Jim Collins, principal strategic sourcing manager, utilities, datacenter strategy, planning and development, MCIO, Microsoft, is one panelist. Paul Bonaro, director of data center operations, Eastern U.S. and Europe, Middle East and Africa, Yahoo, is a second. Other panelists in this session, led by NHA Executive Director Linda Church Ciocci, are Andrew Munro, director, customer service division, Grant County Public Utility District, and Keith Hayes, vice president, marketing, New York Power Authority.

The NHA Annual Conference takes place April 27-29 at the Capital Hilton in Washington, D.C.
