Netting products installed at multiple hydroelectric facilities

Netting systems supplied by Pacific Netting Products have been installed at several hydroelectric facilities in North America.

One example is an application for Puget Sound Energy. PNP designed two barrier nets to divert, guide and collect downstream migrating salmon in the Skagit River. The High-Tech Barrier Nets went into service in October 2012 and November 2012 at PSE’s Upper and Lower Baker Dams, in time for the outbound spring migration of sockeye salmon.

The net at Upper Baker Lake is 2000 feet long and 300 feet deep. The Lower Baker Lake net is 2,400 feet long and 300 feet deep. Both were designed for extreme pool fluctuations of 50 to 70 feet and for single direction water flow velocities of 0.1 to 0.5 feet per second. They are anchored by side-shore embedments and are deployed year-round. They have an anticipated life span of 10 years or more.

Other hydro facility owners that have employed PNP nets include Consumers Energy, AmerenUE, Ontario Power Generation, PacifiCorp and Tacoma Power.

PNP has supplied engineered custom netting products for industrial use since 1997. The company designs, produces and installs custom netting systems for barrier nets, safety, sports, agricultural, industrial, commercial and residential applications.

Its barrier netting for dams and hydroelectric plants are intended to protect and divert fish. Other hydro-relevant products include debris nets to collect or entrap debris in a specific area and water intake canal netting to block the entry/exit of fish or debris, slow down current or divert water flow.
