The organizers of HydroVision International 2015 are pleased to announce three keynote speakers confirmed for the opening session of the upcoming conference and exhibition.

The dynamic keynote will touch on topics relevent to all members of the hydroelectric power, making it a must-attend session for all hydro professionals.

Included in the keynote session are:

Stefan Bird, President and CEO, Pacific Power

  • PacifiCorp owns nearly 10,600 MW of generation from hydroelectric, coal, natural gas, wind and geothermal sources. The company owns 43 hydroelectric plants. Its service area covers 136,000 square miles in California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming. Berkshire Hathaway Energy is the parent company to PacifiCorp. Pacific Power is a 105-year-old company serving 735,000 customers in Oregon, Washington and California, that also manages the company’s renewable generation resources and energy supply for all six states served by Pacific Power and Rocky Mountain Power.
  • Bird will provide a boardroom perspective of how hydro resources are viewed by a company with a mixed generation portfolio, discussing why hydro is good for customers and communities; the value of environmental respect and responsible use of natural resources; and stewardship of facilities and protecting downstream communities through an enhanced dam safety program.

Maria Pope, Senior Vice President of Power Supply and Operations and Resource Strategy, Portland General Electric
  • Portland General Electric is Oregon’s largest utility and serves about 842,000 customers. Its diverse mix of generating resources includes hydropower, coal and gas combustion, and wind and solar energy. The company, which began serving customers in 1889, owns or co-owns 15 power plants with a total combined capacity of 3,357 MW.
  • Pope will focus on PGE's changing resource mix and the continuing role of hydropower in serving Oregonian's need for affordable, reliable electricity.
Jose Zayas, Director, Wind and Water Power Technologies Office, Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, U.S. Department of Energy
  • The U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power program is in the process of developing its long-range national “Hydropower Vision.” The goal is to establish the analytical basis for an ambitious roadmap to usher in a new era of growth in domestic hydropower over the next half century.
  • Zayas will present an update on the status of DOE's Hydropower Vision Plan, and a timeline for unveiling the final roadmap.
HydroVision International 2015 takes place July 14-17 at the Oregon Convention Center. The conference and exhibition is the world's largest event dedicated entirely to the hydroelectric power industry, with dozens of conference tracks, hundreds of exhibitors, and thousands of attendees.
