The Canadian Hydropower Association is partnering with the Royal Canadian Geographical Society, and the exact details of this partnership will be announced on May 14, 2015, at the CHA Forum on Hydropower.

Jacob Irving, president of CHA, and Andre Prefontaine, chief development officer with the society, will make the presentation during the breakfast session. In addition, the Canadian Geographic team will attend Forum receptions on the evenings of May 13 and 14.

The Forum on Hydropower also will feature keynote speaker Jeffrey Simpson and closing speaker Susan Yurkovich.

Simpson is national affairs columnist with The Globe and Mail. He has published seven books, written numerous magazine articles and spoken at dozens of major conferences on a variety of domestic and international issues, CHA says.

Yurkovich is executive vice president at BC Hydro, leading the development of the Site C Clean Energy Project since 2007. The $8 billion dollar dam and hydroelectric generating station, on the Peace River in northeast British Columbia, received federal and environmental approvals in October 2014. Construction of the project is scheduled to begin in the summer of 2015.

The forum is being held May 14-15 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Attendees will see how Canadian hydropower is learning lessons and building the future. According to the website, attendees can get updated on greenfield, rehabilitation, refurbishment and expansion projects going on across the country; learn how the industry is fostering aboriginal relationships and delivering environmental improvements while addressing the need for skilled labor; and discover how hydro developers are communicating the industry’s challenges and successes within our ever-changing world.

CHA is the national trade association for the hydropower industry in Canada, providing advocacy, education and promotion. It has nearly 50 members, including hydropower producers, manufacturers, developers, engineering firms, organizations and individuals interested in the field of hydropower.
