Alstom Renewable Sweden AB has been selected by Vattenfall Vattenkraft AB to upgrade one of three turbine units at the 327-MW hydropower plant in Sweden.

The company will perform model testing at Vattenfall's laboratory in Alvkarleby to verify technical performance guarantees before it is installed at the project, which is located on the Lulea River in the country's northern region.

"We have chosen Alstom as supplier for this important modernization project based on a combination of the technical solution offered and a competitive price," Vattenfall Nordic Hydro Power executive Christer Ljunggren said.

In addition, Alstom (LSE: ALO) will also supply a new pilot bearing and oil pressure system in addition to dismantling and rebuilding existing equipment on the turbine.

"We are proud to be selected as supplier for this turbine upgrade project and we look forward to a good cooperation with Vattenfall during the execution of the project, Alstom official Bertil Exkstrom said.
