Toshiba wins turbine contract for Myanmar's 308-MW Upper Yeywa hydropower plant

The Toshiba Corporation has been awarded a contract by the Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise to supply four turbine and generator units for the 308-MW Upper Yeywa hydropower project.

The MEPE contract was awarded to Toshiba's Chinese subsidiary Toshiba Hydro power (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. (THPC), with deliveries to be made to engineering, procurement and construction contractor Zhejiang Orient Engineering Co., Ltd., beginning in March 2016.

The Japan-based Toshiba Group said that the award is its second in Myanmar after the company previously supplied a hydraulic turbine for the 28.4-MW Sedawgyi plant in 1989.

Located near Taunmgchay on the Myitnge River, the plant is part of Myanmar's plan to further cultivate its hydroelectric generating capacity.
