The World Bank invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform a study of hydropower development in Lebanon. Responses are due February 16.

The 2010 Lebanese Policy Paper for the Electricity Sector and the master plan for hydroelectric sector development in Lebanon identified a number of small hydroelectric plants that could be functional again with limited investments in rehabilitation, the bank said. Most of the plants have been idle for a long time, with some owned by private entities and some by utility Electricite du Liban.

The World Bank seeks consultants to assess the institutional, financial, administrative and legal constraints to the development of a national hydropower market for Lebanon and to develop a practical action plan to foster hydropower to help Lebanon deliver 12 percent of its electricity mix from renewable energy by 2020.

Expressions of interest in English, with attachments totaling less than 5 megabytes, are due February 16, electronically via the World Bank's eConsultant2 Internet site, A solicitation notice is available on the website under Business Opportunities, Solicitation No. 1171903.
