The government of Kenya invites expressions of interest to serve as owner's engineer for construction supervision and quality assurance for Mwache Dam in Kenya. Responses are due February 3.

With funds from the World Bank's International Development Association, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources is implementing the Kenya Water Security and Climate Resilience Project. It recruited consultants in January to serve on a dam safety panel to oversee dam and reservoir construction projects  and to help strengthen Kenya's water resources management and planning.

Kenya's Ministry of Water and Irrigation recruited consultants in 2013 to serve as hydrology, dam engineering, and engineering geology experts for development of Mwache Dam and five other dams including at least one potential hydroelectric project.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Natural Resources now seeks an owner's engineer for construction of Mwache Dam, an 87.5-meter-tall concrete gravity dam, impounding 118 million cubic meters for water supply and irrigation. The dam is intended to supply 60 million cubic meters of water to Mombasa and Kwale counties and support up to 2,000 hectares of irrigation in Kwale County.

Work is to include detailed geotechnical and materials investigations; final design review and update; preparation of dam safety, emergency preparedness and operations plans; support of procurement matters; and supervision of contractors' work.

Three copies of expressions of interest are to be deposited in the tender box or sent to the address below by 10 a.m. February 3.

Submissions are to be labeled "Tender No. EOI/MEWNR/KWSCRP-2/005/2014-15: Request for Expression of Interest for Consultancy Services for Owner's Engineer – Mwache Dam Construction Supervision and Quality Assurance Plan."
