Bhutan Map

The government of Bhutan and its development units seek consultants, civil construction and hydro-mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment for the 118-MW Nikachhu hydroelectric project to be built on Bhutan's Nikachhu River. Responses to separate solicitations are due January 15, February 27 and March 5, 2015.

With support from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Bhutan's Department of Renewable Energy recruited a project engineer in August for its hydropower and clean energy development program.

The Nikachhu project, previously estimated at 210 MW, was among nearly a dozen proposed hydroelectric projects in the 10th Plan of Bhutan's Department of Energy. Alstom T&D India recently supplied transformers to another of those projects, 720-MW Mangdechhu being built on the Mangdechhu River.

Technical assistance consulting

On behalf of Bhutan, ADB invites expressions of interest by January 15 for Acceleration of Hydropower Trading Development in Bhutan. It aims to strengthen the power sector's key frameworks and systems to enhance hydro development and trading. The program is being implemented with the Second Green Power Development Project, which is to advance Nikachhu. A consulting team of 13 experts is sought for an estimated cost of US$1 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the ADB Internet site, www.adb.org, under the links "Businesses," "Consulting Opportunities," "Energy," "TA 8791 BHU."

Expressions of interest are to be submitted via the ADB website by January 15.
