Voith Hydro celebrates strong 2014 supplying hydroelectric generating facilities worldwide

It has been an eventful year for Voith Hydro Inc., which supplies equipment to hydroelectric generating facilities worldwide and employs more than 700 people at its hydropower manufacturing facility in York, Pa.

A division of its Heidenheim, Germany-based parent company, Voith, the corporation is celebrating a year in which it secured new contracts to supply generating equipment, perform rehabilitation work and set milestones for its projects in the U.S.

During the past 12 months, the company has achieved milestones that include:

  • February – Supplied the 5,428-MW Churchill Falls Generating Station in Labrador and Newfoundland, Canada, with complete unit automation systems
  • March and April – Completed the design and model testing with the Hydroelectric Design Center and the Walla Walla District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for the Kaplan runners at 603-MW Ice Harbor Dam
  • June – Shipped three stators and three distributors to the 72-MW Smithland Hydroelectric Project in Livingston County, Ky., and received a US$42 million contract to rehabilitate three units at 135-MW Center Hill Dam Powerhouse in Lancaster, Tenn.
  • July – Received the contract to rehabilitate and upgrade the 100-MW turbines in the 10-unit powerhouse at Priest Rapids Dam on the Columbia River for Grant County Public Utility District of Washington
  • Summer – Will supply the turbines, generators and associated controls for the US$46 million 36.4-MW Red Rock Hydroelectric Project at Red Rock Lake Dam near Pella, Iowa, being developed by Missouri River Energy Services
  • August – Won the contract to replace two turbine runners at the 80-MW Denison Dam hydroelectric project on Texoma Lake in Texas

Voith Hydro President and Chief Executive Officer Bob Gallo said, “Our company achieved significant progress on major hydropower projects, and won new orders to build the turbines, generators, and automation equipment that will power our economic future.”
