U.S. extends bidding for bridge crane rehabilitation at 320-MW Fort Randall Dam


The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline for bids for mechanical and structural rehabilitation of bridge cranes and a lifting beam at the 320-MW Fort Randall hydroelectric project on the Missouri River in South Dakota. Questions may be submitted by Jan. 5 with bids now due Jan. 14, 2015.

The Corps' Omaha District previously called for bids by Jan. 6. The Corps took bids in 2012 for six crane inspections and engineering reports at Fort Randall. More recently, the Corps has been seeking a switchyard upgrade at the project.  

The Omaha District now seeks mechanical and structural rehabilitation and a capacity re-rate of two 150-ton powerhouse bridge cranes and one 280-ton lifting beam at Fort Randall. Each crane would be re-rated to a capacity of 115 tons at the main hoist hook, while the lifting beam would be re-rated to 290 tons at the hook.

The work is expected to require 550 days at a cost of $2.5 million to $5 million.
