Saez promoted to area regional manager for New York’s 1,160-MW Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage project

Brian Saez has been named new regional manager for Central New York, the top position at New York Power Authority’s 1,160-MW Blenheim-Gilboa Pumped Storage Power Project.

In this role, Saez also will oversee NYPA’s small hydro projects on the Mohawk River, 11.8-MW Crescent and 11.8-MW Vischer Ferry; Hinkley Reservoir, 9-MW Gregory B Jarvis; and Ulster County, 4.75-MW Ashokan. He also will be responsible for NYPA’s transmission facilities in the region.

Saez joined NYPA in 2001 as an apprentice operator. He received several promotions and was named operations supervisor in 2007 and superintendent of operations and maintenance resource planning shortly after that.

Saez success Lynn Hait, who retired in November 2014 following a career of more than 38 years at Blenheim-Gilboa.

“Brian Saez’s leadership abilities were evident from the moment he arrived at the Power Authority, and his career trajectory here and performance at pivotal moments in the plant’s history reflect his professionalism and his dedication,” said Gil C. Quinones, NYPA president and chief executive officer.

Saez holds a bachelor’s of science in industrial engineering and is pursuing a master’s in business administration. He is chairman of the Pumped Storage Users Committee, an international group of owners and operators of pumped-storage hydroelectric plants.

NYPA operates 16 generating facilities in New York, and 70% of the electricity it produces is clean, renewable hydropower.
