Nile Lakes states seek fish studies for 80-MW Rusumo Falls hydro project

Nile Equatorial Lakes states invite expressions of interest from consultants to perform fish studies for the proposed 80-MW Rusumo Falls hydroelectric project on the Kagera River. Responses are due January 9, 2015.

The Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program (NELSAP), a unit of the Nile Basin Initiative, recruited a procurement specialist in 2013 for the Rusumo Falls project, which will be located on the border of Rwanda and Tanzania and feature transmission lines interconnecting those countries and Burundi. Rusumo Power Co. Ltd., a hydro development company established by Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania, recruited a managing director for the project in March.

NELSAP now invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform a fisheries baseline survey at Rusumo Falls to provide baseline fisheries information to be compared to subsequent fisheries monitoring during construction and operation of the hydropower project. The consultant is to be an ichthyologist with at least a master's degree and 10 years' experience in inland fisheries.

Expressions of interest are due by January 9 to the address below.
