Hydro Research Foundation seeks applications for graduate-level awards program

2014 HRF Research Awards Program

The Hydro Research Foundation has opened its call for applications for its 2014 Research Award Program, with applications due March 16, 2015.

The US$30,000 awards will sponsor graduate-level students who are "conducting needed hydropower industry research", HRF said, and will be given to 10 to 15 students for one-year appointments.

The awards are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy's Golden Field Office and include a tuition allowance, living stipend, professional honorarium and participation in HRF's roundtables.

"The foundation is grateful for the continuing support of the Department of Energy and the impact this grant is making in attracting new engineers and scientists to the hydropower industry," HRF executive director Deborah Linke said. "We are also very pleased with the many strong relationships we have with various industry leaders."

The foundation's Research Awards Program supported 12 students in 2014. To date, HRF has supported 55 hydopower-related research projects through two DOE grants, with 75% of students having completed their research joining the hydroelectric industry.

More information about the program can be found via HRF's website here.

The Hydro Research Foundation also coordinates the Hydro Fellowship Program, which, since its inception has supported dozens of undergraduate students in hydro-related fields across the U.S.
