On Dec. 11, the Conseil General de la Guadeloupe awarded a US$35.3 million contract to Gaddarkhan consortium leader and son: Gaddarkhan et Fils/Getelec TP/Antilles Geotechnique of Baie-Mahault, Guadeloupe, to build Moreau Dam on Basse-Terre in the commune of Goyave.
The Moreau hydroelectric project is on a tributary of the Moreau River, which is in the southeastern portion of Basse-Terre, and it will include a dam, a reservoir for water supply and irrigation, and hydroelectric facilities.
The consortium will oversee engineering, the construction of the 26-meter-tall, 250-meter-long earthen dam, hydro-mechanical structures, and related facilities.
The Guadeloupe Regional Council ended solicitation for contracts Jan. 18, 2013.
Guadeloupe is an overseas department of France located southernmost of the Leeward Islands in the eastern Caribbean Sea comprised of two main islands: Basse-Terre Island and Grande-Terre.
