The Corps of Engineers has awarded Oregon-based water resources advisory group WEST Consultants Inc. a US$4.9 million contract for work in its entire Northwest Division.
The contract, offered by the Corps' Omaha District, will see WEST Consultants assist with hydrologic and hydraulic engineering and planning analysis, modeling, training, studies, and development of hydrologic and hydraulic engineering and planning software tools.
Specifically, WEST said it will provide:
- River modeling and floodplain analysis of existing baseline conditions and design alternatives with applicable models for one- and two-dimensional evaluations with steady/unsteady flow and sediment transport;
- Floodplain analysis, including floodway computations, floodplain delineation of water surface profiles and CLOMR/LOMR development and processing according to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) criteria in support of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP);
- Hydraulic computations for planning and design of flood control and channel restoration projects to include channel improvements, detention ponds, levees, floodwalls, non-structural measures, conceptual quantity estimates of earthwork and concrete/steel for comparison and budgeting purposes; and
- Hydraulic design of stilling basins, spillways, chutes, outlet works, culverts, drop structures, energy dissipation structures for same, and riprap design for energy dissipation and bank protection.
