U.S. seeks concrete saw cutting for bulkhead system at Ohio River's Emsworth Dam

Emsworth Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers seeks bids to perform concrete saw cutting of new maintenance bulkhead recesses at the Corps' Emsworth Locks and Dam on the Ohio River just downstream from Pittsburgh. Questions may be submitted until Dec. 9, with bids due Dec. 18.

The Corps recently completed rehabilitation of Emsworth's Main Channel and Back Channel dams. Built in 1938, the dams have the oldest structural components of any project on the Ohio River. Although Emsworth does not include a hydroelectric component, an affiliate of Free Flow Power Corp. has filed license applications for the 24-MW Emsworth Locks and Dam (No. 13757) and 12-MW Emsworth Back Channel Dam (No. 13761) projects.

In a solicitation set aside for small businesses, the Corps' Pittsburgh District seeks bids to saw cut concrete of the monoliths in the 110-foot chamber to support future installation of maintenance bulkhead slots. Part of the work will be performed underwater.

The work is valued at $500,000 to $1 million.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W911WN15R0001 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box. Questions are due by 2 p.m., Eastern time, Dec. 9 by e-mail to the address below.

Bids are due by 11 a.m., Eastern time, Dec. 18. For information, contact Gregory Sies, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District, 1000 Liberty Ave., 22nd Floor, Pittsburgh, PA 15222-4186; (1) 412-395-7278; E-mail: gregory.m.sies@usace.army.mil.
