Serbia seeks inventory of small hydropower projects, sites

Serbia Hydroelectric Power

The government of Serbia invites applications for pre-qualification to perform an inventory of small hydropower projects and sites as the Balkan nation seeks to construct 180 MW in new small hydro projects by 2020. Responses are due December 12.

Utility Elektroprivreda Srbije previously called for bids by December 3 to supply and install electro-mechanical equipment for reconstruction of eight small hydroelectric projects totaling 9.79 MW. The World Bank recruited consultants in September to update studies of Elektroprivreda's proposed 680-MW Bistrica Pumped-Storage project proposed for Serbia's Uvac River.

Serbia's energy ministry has developed a National Action Plan for Renewable Energy to increase green power sources to 27 percent of the country's overall mix by 2020 from 21 percent.

As part of that program, Serbia's Ministry of Finance, Department for Contracting and Financing of EU-Funded Programs (CFCU) now seeks technical assistance to develop a new cadastre for small hydropower projects in Serbia having estimated capacities of between 100 kW and 10 MW. The inventory is to cover existing small hydro plants, those under construction and new sites that could host small hydro projects.

Valued at 1.5 million euros (US$1.8 million), the work is expected to require 24 months.

CFCU invites applications for pre-qualification in English using a standard application form from the EuropeAid Internet site under The ministry plans to invite between four and eight candidates to submit proposals.
