The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a US$23 million contract to Nova Group Inc. to replace main unit circuit breakers and instrument transformers for the First Powerhouse at Bonneville Dam.
The Corps' Portland District most recently solicited bids for the work in September for work that is intended to improve reliability and operability of the main unit and transfer bus breakers, as well as station service equipment.
Per the Corps' tender, Nova Group is to remove and replace of 480-volt switchgear, 13.8-kV switchgear, 13.8-kV disconnect switches, surge equipment, 13.8-kV bussing, 2.4-kV bussing, 13.8-kV/2.4-kV transformer, 13.8-kV/480-volt transformers, 2.4-kV/208-volt/120-volt transformer and other equipment.
The 1,076.6-MW Bonneville hydropower plant is located on the Columbia River on the border of Washington and Oregon.
The Portland District recently awarded a contract to American Babbitt Bearing Inc. to supply hydro turbine guide bearings for Bonneville's First Powerhouse. It awarded a contract last year to Precision Machine and Supply Inc. to repair the turbine of Main Unit 11 in Bonneville's Second Powerhouse. It also awarded a contract to Transformer Services Inc. to refurbish step-up transformers at the Second Powerhouse.
