Agreement signed to move forward development of 15-MW Fosthall Creek Power hydroelectric plant


An Impact Benefit Agreement signed by Splatsin, Sorgent.e Hydro Canada Corp. and Fosthall Creek Power Ltd. is intended to move forward development of a hydroelectric plant, the 15-MW Fosthall Creek Power project.

Splatsin is the most southern community of the Secwepemc Nation. Development of this run-of-river project will help develop this community while respecting the environment and cultural heritage resources of the area. The project has an environmentally friendly footprint that will include a spawning channel and a penstock that runs on an old log flume pathway, Sorgent.e Hydro Canada says.

The site, on Fosthall Creek need Nakusp, British Columbia, Canada, has been eyed for development since 2001. Shortly after that, Fosthall Creek Power was formed. The company partnered with Sorgent.e Hydro Canada to complete this development in 2013.

It is estimated the plant will generate enough power to supply five times the households in the entire Secwepemc Nation every year. The company plans to deliver electricity produced to BC Hydro’s transmission grid.

The Fosthall project was one of 47 British Columbia renewable energy projects BC Hydro announced was under consideration for power purchases under its 2008 Clean Power Call.

Sorgent.e is an international group with expertise and experience in the renewable field. The company owns about 100 MW of hydro, wind and solar plants in Italy and Chile and has built 1,000 MW of facilities in 25 countries.
