Venezuela seeks engineering services to upgrade 10,300-MW Simon Bolivar hydro project

Simon Bolivar Hydropower Project

Venezuela utility Corporacion Electrica Nacional S.A. (Corpoelec) invites expressions of interest to provide engineering services for modernization of six turbine-generators of the 10,300-MW Simon Bolivar hydroelectric project on Venezuela's Caroni River. Responses are due October 21.

Corpoelec recruited firms in August to perform factory inspection of equipment required for modernization of the six units. It also had called in July for bids to equip emergency crews and for expressions of interest to provide specialized technical support for rehabilitation of Units 1-6 in powerhouse 1 of Simon Bolivar.

The solicitation is part of a program by Corpoelec to rehabilitate the six turbine-generators that have been operating for 50 years at Simon Bolivar, located at Guri Dam.

The utility now invites expressions of interest from consultants to perform engineering services including assistance in evaluation of equipment and facilities, development of design plans, review of manufacturers' plans, and survey and updating of technical documentation.

Expressions of interest are due to the address below by 4 p.m. October 21 in a sealed envelope labeled "Rehabilitation de las Unidades 1 a 6 de la Casa de Maquinas I de la Central Hidroelectrica Simon Bolivar de Guri, Proceso SP-CAP10-G-0318/2014." They also may be submitted by e-mail to the addresses below.
