The government of Burkina Faso invites expressions of interest to study the level of siltation and availability of water resources at the 16-MW Bagre Dam hydropower project. Responses are due October 21.
With funding from the World Bank's International Development Association, the African nation's Bagre growth sector project (Projet Pole de Croissance de Bagre) seeks to determine the amount of sedimentation in Bagre's reservoir and the availability of water for irrigation and hydroelectric generation. Bagre is located on the White Volta (Nakambe) River in the Volta River Basin.
The agency Bagrepole seeks expressions of interest from consultants to: make a literature search on design of the dam and establishment of additional spillway safety; inventory water users; study land use dynamics in the watershed; make topographic and bathymetric studies to determine the level of siltation; make a hydrological simulation of filling the reservoir; and make a comprehensive water budget and recommendations for prioritization of water uses. The work is expected to require six months.
Expressions of interest, an original and three copies in French, are due by 9 a.m. October 21, to the address below, labeled "Etude sur le Niveau d'Ensablement et la Disponibilite de la Ressource en Eau du Barrage Hydroagricole et Hydroelectrique de Bagre."
