BC Hydro seeks engineering of dams, spillways, penstocks

BC Hydro

Canadian utility BC Hydro seeks proposals from engineering consulting firms to engineer water retention and conveyance structures over at least seven years for the hydropower utility. Bids are due Nov. 5.

BC Hydro said its 10-year capital plan anticipates developing about 40 water retention and conveyance structures such as dams, spillways and penstocks of varying size and complexity. It said the work could be fully or partially performed under a master agreement with a consulting engineering firm, reducing BC Hydro's dependence on its internal engineering resources.

BC Hydro recently began work to replace the 126-MW John Hart hydroelectric project. It also took bids in June for stakeholder engagement services for its large infrastructure projects, the most notable being the proposed 1,100-MW Peace River Site C hydro project. BC Hydro also took bids recently for gates installation at the 47-MW Ladore project.

BC Hydro now seeks proposals for engineering design resources to support the work. It expects to enter a master agreement with an initial term of seven years with an option to extend for another seven years.
