Brazil's Ministry of National Integration invites expressions of interest to perform dam safety studies for rehabilitation of 164 dams. Responses are due October 3.

Brazil's energy regulator reported in August that hydroelectric generators paid 1.1 billion reais (US$488 million) in the first half of 2014 in compensation to local, state and national governments for use of Brazil's water resources. Brazil has been dealing this year with prolonged drought conditions.

Under Brazil's Program for Water Sector Development -- INTERAGUAS, the Ministry of National Integration now invites expressions of interest from consultants to develop a plan of strategic action for rehabilitation of 164 federal dams according to Brazil's dam safety law. Work is to include development of a technical, physical, environmental and legal inventory of all dams and associated structures.

The consultant is to develop maps and plans to support emergency actions, classify all dams by risk categories, specify necessary rehabilitation actions, estimate rehabilitation costs and plan all rehabilitation actions. The work is expected to require 480 days.

Preliminary terms of reference for the work may be obtained from the address below. Expressions of interest and qualifications are due October 3.
