U.S. seeks radial gate repairs at 13.5-MW Nimbus Dam

Nimbus Dam

The Bureau of Reclamation seeks bids to repair radial gates and perform other refurbishment at 13.5-MW Nimbus Dam on California's American River. Bids are due July 11.

Reclamation requested information last year on firms able to perform the work.

Nimbus Dam is an 87-foot-tall, 1,093-foot-long concrete gravity structure commissioned in 1955. It forms Lake Natoma, which reregulates releases for power from 198.72 Folsom Dam. In January, Reclamation began reducing releases from Nimbus Dam into the lower American River in order to protect steelhead spawning in January and February.

In a solicitation set aside for small businesses, Reclamation seeks bids to perform radial gate and related work valued at more than $10 million. Work is to include repairs to 14 radial gates, one at a time over five years. Tasks include removal and disposal of coatings, installing galvanic anode cathodic protection systems, concrete repair, and mechanical repairs including replacing components, weld repairs and painting. Other work includes waterway and marine construction and constructing a bulkhead storage building.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering solicitation No. R14PS00406 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids are due July 11. For information, contact Erik M. Danger, Contract Specialist, Bureau of Reclamation – MP-3800 – Division of Acquisition Services, 2800 Cottage Way, Room E-1815, Sacramento, CA 95825; (1) 916-978-5018; E-mail: edanger@usbr.gov.
