Ivory Coast seeks hydropower site studies below 270-MW Soubre hydro project

The government of Ivory Coast invites expressions of interest from consultants to conduct a feasibility study of hydroelectric development sites downstream of the 270-MW Soubre Dam hydropower project. Responses are due June 30.

China's Sinohydro Corp. Ltd., which is developing Soubre at Naoua Falls on the Sassandra River, awarded a contract in January to Alstom to provide electro-mechanical equipment and technical services for Soubre. China's Export-Import Bank approved a US$556 million loan for Soubre in 2012. The developments are part of Ivory Coast's plan to increase power capacity by 150 MW per year for the next decade and to interconnect its grid with neighboring Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

With funding from the African Development Bank, the Societe des Energies de Cote d'Ivoire (CI-ENERGIES) now invites expressions of interest from consultants to complete a feasibility study of hydro sites downstream of Soubre Dam. The work is to include review of previous studies, as well as topographical, geological, geotechnical, hydrological, hydraulic, socio-economic, energy, and economic-financial studies.

An original and six copies of expressions of interest are due by 10 a.m., Greenwich Mean Time, June 30 to the address below. Submissions are to be labeled "Service de Consultants pour la Realisation de l'Etude de Faisabilite des Amenagements Hydroelectriques des Sites en aval du Barrage de Soubre."
