Bhutan seeks project engineer, implementation specialists for hydropower, clean energy program

Bhutan's Department of Renewable Energy invites expressions of interest for project implementation specialists to serve as project engineer and two project officers for its hydropower and clean energy development program. Responses to three invitations are due July 13.

The Department of Renewable Energy is a unit of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, which solicited pre-feasibility studies in January of three hydropower project sites in Bhutan.

Hydropower provides 99 percent of Bhutan's generating capacity although only 5 percent of its hydro capacity has been developed. India has been working with Bhutan to develop more than 1,200 MW of hydro capacity for export to India.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is providing technical assistance to Bhutan under the Promoting Clean Energy Development in Bhutan program to develop hydropower and also to develop alternative renewable resources to enhance energy security.

The Department of Renewable Energy now invites expressions of interest for a project engineer, consulting for 16 months with a US$10,000 budget, and project officers 1 and 2, consulting for 16 months with a budget of US$8,000 each. The project officers are to assist the project engineer in his task assisting the government's project management unit in operation of the program, providing general project administration, identifying potential delays and obstacles, and preparing project reports.
