Argentina's federal planning ministry invites expressions of interest to study the hydropower potential of the Iruya and Pescado rivers, tributaries of the Bermejo River in northern Argentina. Responses are due June 13.

Argentina's Ministerio de Planification Federal, Inversion Publicas y Servicios took bids in February to survey and update studies of small hydropower sites in Mendoza Province. It also took bids to study a multi-purpose hydropower complex on the Las Canas, Gastona and Medina rivers as well as bids to construct the 637-MW Chihuido 1 hydroelectric project.

In the current solicitation, the ministry seeks a study of prospective hydropower development on the Iruya and Pescado rivers. Work is to include review of legislation; basic engineering studies; remote sensing; topographical studies; geology; geomorphology; sediment studies; soil mechanics; hydrological studies of project alternatives; hydraulic modeling; feasibility analyses; selected preliminary engineering; hydraulic and structural design; electro-mechanical, electrical and transmission components; economic and financial evaluations; and establishing requirements for environmental and social assessments.

A pre-qualification notice may be obtained from the ministry Internet site at http://energia3.mecon.gov.ar/contenidos/verpagina.php?idpagina=3807.
