Afghanistan national utility Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) invites expressions of interest from consultants to serve on a dam safety and generation optimization advisory panel for rehabilitation of the 100-MW Naghlu hydroelectric project on Afghanistan's Kabul River. Responses are due June 3.
Since 2006, the World Bank has been financing the rehabilitation of electrical and electro-mechanical parts of the Naghlu project, which was built with help from the Soviet Union in the 1960s. Last year, DABS recruited consultants to initiate a new rehabilitation program for Naghlu.
In April DABS took applications from consultants to serve on the dam safety advisory panel as well as an environmental and social advisory panel for Naghlu.
DABS now invites expressions of interest from consultants to serve as six members of a Project Technical Advisory Panel to provide an independent and high-level technical evaluation of the safety of Naghlu Dam. The panel is to include experts in dam design and construction engineering, hydraulic design and sediment engineering, hydrology and flood routing, geology and geotechnical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering and dam operations and maintenance.
DABS said the scope of the panel's work is to include improvement of safety and sustainability of the dam as well as optimization of power generation.
Responses are due to the address below by June 3. Candidates must sent their resumes mentioning the name of the position sought: dam designs and construction expert (chairman); hydraulic design and sediment expert; hydrology and flood routing expert; geology and geotechnical expert; electro-mechanical engineering expert; or dam operations and maintenance engineer.
