U.S. extends bidding for fall protection upgrade at 1,780-MW Dalles Dam

Dalles Dam

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has extended the deadline for bids to upgrade the fall protection system at 1,780-MW Dalles Dam on the Columbia River. Bids now are due April 17.

The Corps' Portland District previously called for bids by April 11. It awarded a contract in March to Industrial Support Service LLC to refurbish a 35-ton tailrace gantry crane at The Dalles. It awarded a contract last year to McMillen LLC for fishway modifications and took bids for construction of a fire safety system at the project.

In a solicitation set aside for small business, the Portland District now seeks bids to upgrade the horizontal lifeline support system at The Dalles. The Corps said two overhead bridge cranes run the length of the powerhouse about 50 feet above the main floor. In order to provide repairs and routine maintenance, the existing horizontal lifeline system on the north wall is to be replaced and a new system installed on the south wall. The work is valued at less than $150,000.

A solicitation notice may be obtained from the Federal Business Opportunities Internet site, www.fbo.gov, by entering Solicitation No. W9127N14R0024 in the "Keyword/Solicitation #" box.

Bids now are due April 17. For information, contact Jeffrey Renner, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Portland District, Contracting Division (CECT-NWP), P.O. Box 2946, Portland, OR 97208-2946; (1) 503-808-4630; E-mail: jeff.s.renner@usace.army.mil.
