Burundi's water and electric utility invites expressions of interest from dam engineers, hydrologists and geologists to perform independent review of the proposed dam for the 31.5-MW Jiji hydroelectric project on Burundi's Jiji River. Responses are due March 26.

Regie de Production et de Distribution d'Eau et d'Electricite (REGIDESO) recruited dam design specialists in February for a similar review.

REGIDESO recruited consultants in December to supervise tendering and construction of Jiji and the 16.5-MW Mulembwe hydro project and a related transmission line in Burundi's Bururi Province. In August it called for consultants to form a dam safety panel and a social and environmental assessment panel for the two proposed hydroelectric projects.

REGIDESO now invites expressions of interest from individual dam engineers, hydrologists and geologists to review studies of consulting firm Fichtner, to evaluate the quality of the design of Jiji Dam and whether the design is consistent with accepted standards and local conditions. The work per consultant is estimated at 15 days in the period from April to May.

Expressions of interest, labeled "Ami pour le Recrutement des Consultants Individuels (Barragiste, Hydrologue et Geologue) pour la Revue Ponctuelle de la Conception du Barrage de Jiji," are due to the address below by 10 a.m. March 26.

For information, contact Monsieur le Directeur General de la REGIDESO, Projet de Developpement des Amenagements Hydroelectriques de Jiji et Mulembwe (PDAJIMU), Avenue des Travailleurs No. 8, BP 660, Bujumbura, Burundi; (257) 22-273246; Fax: (257) 22-273249; E-mail: emmanuel_barinzigo@yahoo.com, nkurico@yahoo.fr.
