Guinea Map

The World Bank invites expressions of interest from consultants to develop an atlas of hydropower development sites in Guinea. Responses are due January 20.

The bank recruited consultants in October to help Guinea's Ministry of Energy advance private hydro development in Guinea. Guinea's rural engineering directorate also sought firms in October to update a feasibility study and to perform design and tender preparation for the 90-MW Fomi hydroelectric project in the upper Niger River Basin. State-owned utility Electricite de Guinee recruited consultants in August to perform a social and environmental assessment of the 75-MW Garafiri project on Guinea's Konkoure River.

The World Bank now seeks consultants to inventory and map all potential sites for large, small and mini-hydropower (minimum 1 MW) projects throughout Guinea. Work is to include assessment of all available documentation, site visits and collection of information, data analysis and development of the atlas of hydro potential, creation of an Internet viewer, training on models developed, and drafting of terms of reference for subsequent hydropower master plan assignment for Guinea.

Expressions of interest not to exceed 30 pages are due January 20, in French or English, electronically via the World Bank's eConsult Internet site, A solicitation notice is available on the website under Business Opportunities, Selection No. 1130310.

The bank intends to invite a short-list of firms to submit proposals in French, subject to availability of funding.
