Corps awards contract for hydro turbine work at 810-MW Lower Granite, 402-MW Dworshak hydro projects

Lower Granite Hydro Project

American Babbitt Bearing Inc. has won a US$137,600 contract for turbine unit rehabilitation at the 810-MW Lower Granite and 402-MW Dworshak hydropower plants.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Walla Walla District most recently sought bids for the work in December 2012.

As per the contract, American Babbitt is to inspect and refurbish two separate turbine guide bearings at Lower Granite and Dworshak. The work also includes the removal of existing Babbitt, spin casting new Babbitt, and the possible refurbishment of the vertical split flange contact surfaces and outer diameter spigot fits, followed by machining and painting of the shells' exterior. reported earlier this month that the Corps also seeks small businesses capable of installing a passive integrated transponder tag system in Lower Granite's spillway. The hydro project is located on the Snake River in Washington.

Meanwhile, the Corps is also seeking bids for head cover repair of a generator unit at Dworshak. That project is located on the North Fork Clearwater River in Idaho.
