Barra do Rio Chateu

An Eletrobras-owned small hydroelectric project in Brazil's Santa Catarina state is now online, the utility company announced earlier this week.

The 15.5-MW Barra do Rio Chapeu micro hydro project is a joint venture between Eletrobras (NYSE: EBR) subsidiary Eletrosul and German development bank Kreditanstalt fur Wiederaufbau (KfW), which announced the partnership in December 2008.

Barra do Rio Chapeu is located on the Braco do Norte River and is one part of the Sao Bernardo complex.

Also included are the Itarare, Joao Borges and Pinheiros hydro facilities which, along with Barra do Rio Chapeu, will have a total combined output of more than 50 MW.
