Ross-Brandt Electric Inc. and J.E. McAmis Inc. have won contracts with a total value of more than $2.6 million from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to perform work at John Day Dam on the Columbia River in Oregon.

Ross-Brandt of Hermiston, Ore., received a $2.07 million contract to supply electrical equipment for the 2,160-MW John Day powerhouse. Work involves replacing and upgrading the DC and preferred AC system, including replacing and upgrading batteries, battery racks, chargers, switchboards, panel boards, feeders and feeder breakers of the system. The system is used to provide uninterruptible power to critical station service loads in the event of a poser failure.

J.E. McAmis of Chico, Calif., was awarded a $637,000 contract to repair failed monolith waterstops to significantly reduce the amount of water entering John Day Dam. Methods are to include pavement joint sealant, drilled socket waterstops, and surface-mounted rubber gasket waterstops. Repairs are to be performed in the dewatered fishway, roadway deck and several dam galleries.

Several other contracts recently have been awarded for work at the dam, including a $293,000 contract to Knight Construction & Supply Inc. to replace wire rope and perform load testing for an emergency intake crane.
