Litostroj completes work at 49.9-MW Kwoiek Creek hydro plant

Machinery manufacturer Litostroj Hydro Inc. has put four turbine generator groups into operation at British Columbia's 49.9-MW Kwoiek Creek hydroelectric plant.

Litostroj equipped the project's powerhouse with four 14.775 MW horizontal Pelton turbines. The company also supplied and installed generators, spherical inlet valves and other auxiliaries.

The project, developed through a joint venture of Innergex II Power Trust and the Kanaka Bar Indian Band called Kwoiek Creek Resources L.P., is a run-of-river plant on a tributary to the Fraser River.

Construction began in late 2011 after 18 years of planning and preparation. The developer obtained more than 50 approvals, permits, and licenses from 14 government regulatory bodies.

"We are proud to have been part of this team and thank Innergex for their trust," Litostroj Hydro technical and commercial director YAnnick Labonte said. "This project is consolidating our position as a leading water-to-wire solution provider in this market." reported in September that the company had been given a notice to proceed on an equipment contract for the 19-MW White River project in Ontario.
